This last weekend I finished a pencil skirt. After sewing the skirt, I hand sewed lace around the waist and hem. The hand sewing took me a long time, but I think it was worth it in the end. The lace at the waist is especially nice since it gives it a finished belt look. I drafted a pattern for the pencil skirt using eSewing Workshop online videos. Drafting a pattern was so helpful. This was the first time I had ever drafted a pattern onto paper using my exact measurements (usually I just follow online tutorials that only need the waist measurements or I buy store patterns that NEVER fit correctly). This time I used a few dozen measurements, making the skirt tailored to me, and I think it helped me to make a more professional fitting garment. I'm looking forward to drafting more patterns for future clothes that I want to make!

I LOVE this!!! I got a sewing machine from my parents for Christmas, and now just need to clean our "black hole" room (named such because stuff just gets sucked in there and it's a chaotic mess) so that it's more like the study we intended it to be. Then I will have a place to sew!
ReplyDeleteAlyson that is so fun that you got a sewing machine! Haha, ya we only have a one bedroom so there isn't a black hole room, but we definitely have a black hole closet.... :) Anyways, good luck sewing! Can't wait to see what you make!
