We found out that we are having a little baby boy come early May! We are so excited! Of course I wanted to make him a blanket. My mom made me a few different blankets growing up and I always loved them. A handmade blanket is so full of love!
After finding out that he's a boy, I decided to make a nautical sailboat themed baby blanket. I love blues, whites, and anything to do with sailboats. If I ever had a beach home, I might just decorate the whole house with a nautical theme!
The problem was though, that I had this idea in my head, but I couldn't find the right fabric anywhere (Let alone find an already made nautical baby quilt). So I ended up cutting out the shapes I wanted and hand-stitching them onto the squares. Then after sewing the squares together, I hand-stitched the top piece of fabric to batting and a back layer.
Having to make my own sailboat, anchor, wheel, and lighthouse was kind of fun. With each stitch I imagined a little boy cuddling up with this blanket and wondering if he'll like it.
One thing that made hand-stitching the blanket a little easier was that I used this fusible batting. I ironed together the fabric and the batting, making it less likely for the layers to shift while sewing.
Only three more months until it gets used!

Coongratulations!!
